I’m an introvert, most of the time. My hobbies include baking questionable bread, and making snails pace progress on learning Japanese.
I’ve been making comics my whole life, but it’s taken me some time to get back to my first passion in a serious way. I studied Fine Art at NSCAD University, graduating with a BFA in 2010. My focus was in painting. With some scholarship help, I then completed an MA in Art History at Queen’s University, studying Nova Scotian folk art and museum representation. I learned a lot that still informs my practice, but ultimately the scholarly life wasn’t for me.
I’ve done a number of painting and collaborative projects, including a series of oil paintings called Unexpected Visitors—an exploration of grief and enchantment. In 2015, I formed an art collective called “NO and NO” with my friend GHY Cheung and we exhibited at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre in Katarokwi/Kingston. My collaboration continues with GHY. He lettered Kettle Harbour and we are currently working on a new book titled A Rift in the Valley.
I’m also an experienced art educator. Over the years I’ve taught workshops for children, youth and adults. My day jobs have generally been in arts administration and book-keeping. For two-and-a-half wonderful years, I worked for Theatre Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Choral Federation. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my fabulous colleagues there.
I am currently studying animation.
